Interview with the multi-instrumentalist AWAN OSPREY

Check out his Album: LOVE PEACE AND ROCK’N’ROLL

When did you decide that a career in music was for you?

Well, I am a musician. Raised in a musical family. I haven't decided on a career. I chose  music itself a lot more. Just making and enjoying music. That is my world. Always been.  Long time I was a multi-instrumental session musician and in some bands.

The final ass kick to finally do something with my talents for my own career came from  Shanon Juli Doah, from Shanon Records. So we spent 1 year in the studio, producing my  debut album „Love Peace And Rock’n’Roll".

We wanted to create a good mix of music and contemporary messages. I was always very  open to all genres. The special, extraordinarily professional singers on this album as well.  That makes the whole album very free, alive and dynamic.

Who are your musical inspirations and why?

Rock-Bands from the 80’ and 90’ like Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith, Soundgarden, Bon Jovi  and also newer Bands like Alter Bridge. Cause it’s just really good, authentic music to me.

Can you tell me 3 things about yourself that people might not already know?

WelI, I never really had lessons.

My first instrument as a little child was the Trumpet in the brass music and I finished the  boring guitar lesson after the second lesson. I felt it was not for me. I just wanted to play  what was inside myself.

So I started to buy my own equipment from my pocket money, and I claimed the unused  drums and piano in the basement for my own, and that changed everything. I let it flow and  enjoyed my natural relation to that various instruments.

Basically, I can play any instrument that I can connect to or like. But my favorites are  drums and guitars.

And I love to cook healthy stuff :-)

What song of yours best describes you and why?

„Love Peace And Rock’n’Roll‘. It just based on my actual attitude to life.

What do you like best about being a musician and why?

Composing. Songwriting. Creating Songs and breathe life into them.  For me as a multi-instrumentalist it is just great to play all these Instruments and put them  together to Songs, and to find the right voices / singers for it.

And it makes me happy to see that there are so many people who like my work too. That’s  of course the icing on the cake.

What would you say is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? „Move your ass and push your own music, finally!“ :-)

What things make you happy and what things annoy you?

To create new music and to see that people like it will make me always happy.

But what annoys me: The meaning and magic of Music itself lost so much over the years  through wrong treatment.

To buy and to listen to Songs in good CD quality. Enjoying music with good sound  systems, instead on a f’n cellphone speaker. Let alone the streaming platforms etc.  All that swallowed a lot of the musics real magic. Music is a part of life itself. We have to  really feel it, not just listen to it in passing by in reduced, bad quality on a cellphone, where  so much great nuances get swallowed that we musicians value so much.

Do you think social media and the internet are a good thing in the music industry?

Social media, yes. It is a really good thing for all musicians. I connected to so many great  musicians and people out there.

But it is sad that streaming platforms are almost the only way to listen to music.  And it is way too bad that all is about these ‚Numbers’ these days. If one thing has not  enough views and streams: „so it must be unworthy“. Thats’s a really weird, wrong and  fatal brain washing psychology.

What has been your experience during the Covid 19 situations. Can you tell us how  this has affected you personally, how it has affected you professionally and maybe  a story from this time or a message for people out there?

Well, Covid-19 hit us totally. When it was finally about to release the album, was exactly  the time when Covid-19 started globally. Even so we released the album on March 20th,  2020, because it was clear that this virus topic would be a protracted problem globally.  So all gigs were canceled. For me it was just important to share the music nevertheless.  We produced and released this music that people will have fun with it, but also finding  comfort and new strength and motivation in it. Covid-19 or not. After all, that's what it's  always about: Love, Peace and Rock’n’Roll. Of course especially in this trying times.

If you could say one thing to your fans what would it be and why?

First: THANK YOU! Thank you for take your time to hear and feel the songs. That means  the world to me.

2: And please, listen to music with good speakers from time to time, so you can feel it, as it  is supposed to be.

3: And from time to time, please buy a Download or a CD directly from your favorite  Musicians. Because they live from making music for the world, but they get actually next to  nothing from this streaming platforms. As listener you pay that membership fee on this  platforms for avoiding their promotional activities, not to support the music and the  musicians. And it really takes a lot of time, expensive equipment and a bunch of money to  make a qualitative good song. When you really love music and your favorite musicians,  please keep this in your mind. Thank you.

What was the first record or song you purchased and why?

Hmm, I can’t remember the very first. But one of the first was Queen - A Kind Of Magic. It  had a very great energy.

If you could collaborate with any other band/singer or musician who would you  choose and why?

Myles Kennedy, Richie Sambora, Orianthi. They are very special musicians and singers.

What would you say to someone thinking about becoming a musician and getting  into the music industry?

Produce your music as professional as possible before release. Don't make rotten  compromises when it comes to quality. It starts with a guitar that's a bit out of tune. So  please, tune your guitars! ;-)

And about the music industry, hmm. If you have the opportunity for a deal with a big one  and you are ready to sell a lot of you individuality, do it.

If not, release with a respectful independent label or as an independent musician and do it  for the music itself. Let it flow. Be your music. Just music.

What has the rest of the year got in store for you?

We are currently working on a new project. Stay tuned! It will be very special.

Thank you very much for this Interview on the great Electric Music Magazine! Always Love Peace And Rock’n’Roll for you and everyone.
