When did you decide that a career in music was for you?

My dad put on an “Oasis live 2005" dvd for me and my brother and we were completely blown away. I grew up with my dad always playing music, but seeing them walk on stage, the attitude and the songs - i spent the next 5 years getting home from school/work and just watching every video i could find on youtube about them.

Who are your musical inspirations and why?

Noel gallagher is a huge influence, but more recently I’ve been listening a lot to a band from the UK called Catfish and the Bottlemen! I love the simple songwriting, it's not overthought and it flows so welll. I also read Bruce Springsteen's new book and went back and listened to his songs, so i've come in a little bit later than most but his lyrics in “Dancing in the Dark" are beyond incredible and i think every aspiring songwriter should study that song!!!

Can you tell me 3 things about yourself that people might not already know?

- I have cold showers in the morning, not to be a hero but it's the one thing i do to kinda wake myself up and helps with jetlag!

- I'm a massive gamer, If I'm not playing them I'm streaming and watching others play, it's just a way to turn my mind off and zone out!

- I get quite anxious playing live, so the way to combat that is by rehearsing alot!

What song of yours best describes you and why?

I'd say ‘Be Alright' does the best to describe me! I think me going to my friends and asking for advice (which i sing about in the chorus) is very me! I know what I want with most things, but I am always listening to peoples' options I trust and weighing that up with my own internal beliefs and thoughts.

What has been the best gig you have done to date and why?

Playing ‘Groovin the Moo' festival was unbelievable! Walking on stage to 10,000 people was just mindblowing - and so much beyond what I'd done before. It's a surreal experience you can't explain.

If you could perform a gig at any venue where would it be and why?

I'd love to play the Horden Pavillion in Sydney! I remember seeing UK band The Kooks play there and it would just be an incredible milestone!

What has been your best achievement to date and what would like to achieve in the future?

My best achievement is definitely ‘Waves' going 3 x platinum! We all thought the song was going to last 3 months but it went on for a year and half!

Tell me a story from backstage or after a gig?

When i come off stage, it's usually an incredible feeling! I remember playing a festival after New Years and then heading out into the crowd with the band and eating burgers and having a beer. It's just a such a satisfying feeling coming off stage when you've put on a good show, and i can't really eat before i play so I'm usually pretty hungry when i get off!

What do you like best about being a musician and why?

I love that you can write a song that people connect with and it can change your life. It can also impact so many people who feel something when they listen to it!

If you were not in the job you are now what would you be doing?

I would probably be doing the same thing, i was a sound recordist working in televsion! I didnt really enjoy it at all, i fell into it but luckily music came along and gave me a chance to do something i love.

What has been the best gig you have been to as a fan and can you tell us about it?

It would most definitely be seeing Noel Gallagher on stage when he came to Australia doing his solo tour.  His presence was just incredible.

What would your ideal festival line up be and why?

My ideal festival line up would be me, Noel Gallagher, Bruce Springsteen. Just the 3 of us, I'm not sure why, it would just be cool to meet them.

What would you say is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

Always put yourself out there, chase that feeling! When you're nervous and you can mess up, and you feel like you're not ready - move forward anyway!

What things make you happy and what things annoy you?

The thing that makes me the happiest is when you write a song that you think is great. The thing that annoys me is when its really hard to get it right when you record it properly and you realise maybe it's not as good as you thought!

What things do you like to do when you are away from music?

I game or watch people via stream playing games! Best way for me to switch off from music and everything that's happening!

Do you think social media and the internet are a good thing in the music industry?

I think it's great, I can connect with fans so easily, and I try to respond to all the messages and comments I get on facebook and instagram. It's incredible but it also means you don't have any time off!

How important do you think you look and image is when it comes to being in the music industry?

I think it's very important. I try not to change or think about how I look too much - I have my style and havent really changed. I know who I am, and what photos I like or artwork and imagery. I think some people who are may be starting out can get some bad advice and listen to what other people think they should be! Which sucks, i think you just have to learn who you are and trust your instinct.

Can you tell us about any tattoos have and the significance of them to you?

AHHH I think I'm the only person in the world with no tattoos!

If you run the country for a day what would you change about it and why?

I would make it so everyone had to listen to only my songs for a day. I'm kidding!

What would your ideal day consist of?

I love getting breakfast alone in the morning at a cafe and writing things on my mind, what I have to do. I leave there and go see my parents, my dog, go for a walk. Write a song, go to the gym. Come home and play games all night!

If you could say one thing to your fans what would it be and why?

I LOVE YOU

How would you answer the questions who is Dean Lewis ?

Dean Lewis is a guy who writes songs, hopes people like them and plays them live!

What was the first record or song you purchased and why?

I think it was an album called "Neon Ballroom by a band called silverchair" - they were just very cool at the time, they are a famous Australian band.

What would say to someone thinking about becoming a musician and getting into the music industry?

I would say only what I know has worked for me - and that is to write 100/200 songs and don't release anything until you have the right music! Its ok to want something really badly and to work for it and be obsessive, but don't rush the release. You only get one shot at that. But I think if anyone wrote 100 songs, you'd end up with at least 5 good ones and 1 great one.

If you could collaborate with any other band/singer or musician who would you choose and why?

I'd love to collaborate with Sigrid! I just think she is incredible, I supported her on a couple of shows a few months ago.

If you could have written one song from history which would it have been and why?

'Dancing in the dark' by Bruce Springsteen! The way the lyrics create an image have influenced my songwriting more than any other song. It's also so effortless and flows so well.

What things make you uncomfortable?

When I procrastinate or being stuck on a plane for 24 hours.

If you wrote a book about yourself what would it have in it?

I would have all my family and friends in it and make everything sound 1000 x more amazing than it is!

What has the rest of year go in store for you?

The response to my new song ‘Be Alright' has been insane. I will be doing a lot of travel, and a lot of shows and a lot of new songs! I cant wait
