How much have your friends and families played a part in your career so far?
They have been a huge part in my career. They have stood behind me when many others have given up.
When did you decide that a career in music was for you?
I’m not sure I ever really made it a decision. I knew I loved music and I wanted to create it. Everything else just kind of happened after that.
Who are your musical inspirations and why?
My biggest inspiration is Eminem. I listened and identified with his music at a very vulnerable age. A lot of his music helped me believe I could do whatever I put my mind to.
Can you tell me 3 things about yourself that people might not already know?
I played baseball my entire youth
I love Jazz music
Reese’s peanut butter is my kryptonite
What song of yours best describes you and why?
'My Name' is my most recent life story.
What has been the best gig you have done to date and
Japan is still my favorite to date. Just an incredible atmosphere and culture.
If you could perform a gig at any venue where would it be and why?
My home arena is on my bucket list. Giant Center in Hershey, PA. Wembley wouldn’t be bad either haha
What has been your best achievement to date and what would like to achieve in the future?
Being able to play music for a living is my greatest career achievement. Continuing for the duration of my adult life would be my ultimate accomplishment.
Tell me a story from backstage or after a gig?
Our merch guy left the gas on in the RV and our driver saved his life. Could have been a pretty bad scenario.
What do you like best about being a musician and why?
I have the chance to spread our message and help people through a universal language.
If you were not in the job you are now what would you be doing?
I would most likely work in telecommunications as a technician.
What has been the best gig you have been to as a fan and can you tell us about it?
Watching Linkin Park perform at Rock On the Range was huge for me. I played earlier that day, but was more looking forward to their performance than mine. They controlled the stage with ease. It was amazing watching thousands sing along to every song of the set.
What would your ideal festival line-up be and why?
Honestly? I would like to see a cross between many genres. Let people just enjoy different styles of music for what it is. The lineup would consist of rap, rock, metal, pop, country, and much more.
What would you say is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
Keep your head high and your shoulders back. Believe in yourself and others will believe in you.
What things make you happy and what things annoy you?
My family makes me happy and politics annoy me.
What things do you like to do when you are away from music?
I like to spend time with my family. We are huge Philadelphia Eagles fans, so anything involving them is great.
Do you think social media and the internet are a good thing in the music industry and how do you cope with using social media to build a profile in music?
I think they are good and bad. You can use social media to reach a lot of people, but it also oversaturates many markets. Music used to be discovered through one or two avenues (radio & video) now you can find it anywhere. Before social media there was no middle ground. You were either huge or not.
How important do you think you look and image is when it comes to being in the music industry?
I think it’s huge. If you don’t look the part or have an image that people think is “cool” then you’re not doing something special aesthetically.
Can you tell us about any tattoos you have and the significance of them to you?
I have a couple, but my favorite is my grandparents dog tags from WWII. They were very influential in my life and will alway be a part of me.
If you run the country for a day what would you change about it and why?
I would create more non-profit organizations that focus on mental health and development of mental health in young people.
What would your ideal day consist of?
Sleeping in, coffee, laying on the beach, lunch, doing something fun with my family, dinner, movie with the family, sleep. Possibly boring to some, but life to me.
If you could say one thing to your fans what would it be and why?
Thank you for standing behind us. Thank you for not giving up on us when many did. You are the reason we exist and we love you for that.
How would you answer the question who are From Ashes to New ?
A group of guys that love music and have a message to spread. A band that doesn’t spew nonsense, but has great purpose to its music.
Can you tell me one thing about each member that people might not already know?
Danny is a quarter Japanese, Lance loves anime, and Mat used to drum for Trivium.
What was the first record or song you purchased and why?
The 1st record I purchased was East 1999 Eternal by Bone Thugs’N’Harmony. I loved their style of rapping.
What would say to someone thinking about becoming a musician and getting into the music industry?
Be prepared to work 28 hours a day 9 days a week 400 days a year. This industry is not for the weak and takes more sacrifice and dedication then most have to offer. Music has to be your life to make it your life.
If you could collaborate with any other band/singer or musician who would you choose and why?
Eminem. Because it would be a dream come true.
If you could have written one song from history which would it have been and why?
Aha 'Take On Me' because why not? lol
What things make you uncomfortable?
Spiders and cringey behavior haha
If you wrote a book about yourself what would it have in it?
Lots of pictures because I’m not a fan of reading and I wouldn’t want to force that on anyone else.
What has the rest of year got in store for you?
Touring relentlessly lol
