When did you decide that a career in music was for you?

When I was in high school, I wanted to be a filmmaker, an actor or an astronaut, but as

time went on, none of those things really seemed easy, and I was already playing music, so I

thought I’d stick with that.

Who are your musical inspirations and why?

Oh god, so many. I love Neil Young. Big fan of Neil Young, Bob Dylan.

What song of yours best describes you and why?

I don’t know if any of my songs really describe me, but maybe in some roundabout way. I try not to write too autobiographically. When I do, it’s emotionally-fuelled and I sound like a dick when I read it back.

What has been the best gig you have done to date and why?

The most fun I’ve had at a show in recent times was at The Metro in Adelaide when we played my Sayonara Adelaide Soiree (before relocating to Naarm/Melbourne)last July. I worked there behind the bar for a few years, so the venue holds a place in my heart. For this show I just got a bunch of friends to play in the band, so there were like 9 people on stage. Fun stuff!

If you could perform a gig at any venue where would it be and why?

Madison Square Gardens, NYC.

What has been your best achievement to date and what would you like to achieve in the future?

Finishing the new album and getting it out. I wanna do another album real soon.

Tell me a story from backstage or after a gig?

We played at the Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide, and it was sort of an oddly staged gig, and I remember it was kinda odd backstage. They kept saying stuff like “you see that urinal? Kurt Cobain used that urinal”.

What do you like best about being a musician and why?

The money.

If you were not in the job you are now what would you be doing?

An astronaut.

What has been the best gig you have been to as a fan and can you tell us about it?

I saw Jason Isbell the other night, that was great. Guy is a great player.

What would your ideal festival line up be and why?

The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Metallica and Black Sabbath with special guests Ricky Albeck & the Belair Line Band.

What things do you like to do when you are away from music?

I’m loving reading at the moment. I love movies.

What was the first record or song you purchased and why?

It was Avril Lavigne Under My Skin because I thought she was sick (still do).

If you could collaborate with any other band/singer or musician who would you choose and why?

Willie Nelson.

What has the rest of the year got in store for you?

Going to release this album, and then get to work on the next one! :)
