Southern Halo Interview

The three girls from Southern Halo take our challenge and answer the same questions.

Hannah Morris

Do you think being sisters helps when thinking about longevity as a trio and what is it like working with your sisters and being with them most of the time?

Being in a band with my sisters is absolutely the best job to have. Not only are we sisters, but we are all so close and are like built in best friends so getting the opportunity traveling together and being able to share the same passion as a family has been the best blessing.

What did you guys get up to at Christmas and you tell me a story from the holiday season from any year since you were born?

Christmas or any holiday is always the best time of the year just getting to spend close time with family getting the opportunity to cook and see old friends are always one of our favorite ways of spending any holiday. Christmas especially traditionally we love having all the best holiday music on repeat to truly get in the spirt every time of year.

Who out of the three of you:

Eats the most food?

Honestly all of us in our family are big foodies 😊

Argues the most?

Hhhmm depends are we talking about clothes

or best recent artist?

Has the best taste in Music?

Well of course me! Haha nooo I’d like to think we all share great taste in different types of genres of music.

Spends the most shopping?

Me of course I can’t help it I’m such a girly girl 😊

Works the hardest?

We all bring our own parts to the table, but Natalia the oldest sister defiantly should get creds on being a great leader of the team.

What style of music do the three of you listen to and do you think those styles of music fit in to anything you perform?

Since I am the bass player, it’s only natural for me to love any “popish” beat with a lot of bass of course and definitely a lot of alternative music.

What has been the best day of your life so far, is there anything you regret and if you could only achieve one more thing in life what would it be and why?

Best day of my life would be most definitely the day I got my first puppy Uga Bear when I was about 10 he is truly the best dog and my best friend in the world.

I don’t think I truly regret anything. I couldn’t have asked for a better life and the way of viewing the world.

You were officially named as EMM Artist of 2018.Can you tell me how you feel about that and what would you say as an acceptance speech ?

It is SUCH a huge honor! Thank you so much Electric Music Magazine, and thank you to all of the readers. You guys are so cool. ☺

If you are cooking a meal for each of you what would be the ideal meal for each of you and why?

If I am cooking a meal, I would no doubt cook up some mac n’ cheese! I honestly love anything with carbs haha!

If you could change the music industry in anyway how would you do it?

I would change it in the way where we go back to the fundamental original classic music.

                     Which are you proud of:

One gig you performed in?

We got the chance to perform at the Ryman auditorium

Your favourite line from one of your songs?

It’s always been you

Your best fan experience?

When we have a supper fan that at every performance brings us chocolate with our singles name on it.

What have you got planned for 2019?

We plan on traveling a lot more and, of course, continue to progress in our music. We have so many fun new shows, tour dates, and more to share with everyone very soon!

What would you like to finish this year                                     having achieved?

I would love to continue to grow our fan base by doing more shows, collaborating with other artists in country music, getting more opportunities to meet new fans!

Christina Morris

Do you think being sisters helps when thinking about longevity as a trio and what is it like working with your sisters and being with them most of the time?

I most definitely do believe that being sisters in this business together is a major “pro” in terms of longevity and the endurance of our career in the music industry. There is no doubt that we work so well together due to our intense biological link; We literally spend (and always prefer to spend) every day together, whether we’re just hanging out or working on our career to better our product. My sisters never let me down and always have my back- They’re true best friends! ☺

What did you guys get up to at Christmas and you tell me a story from the holiday season from any year since you were born?

This past Christmas, we all hung out around the house, shared presents, and enjoyed each other’s company! It felt SO great to be back home and do nothing but chill after traveling all the radio/show tours the entire year leading up to it.

Who out of the three of you:

Eats the most food?

Meee, I’m a true food connoisseur

Argues the most?

Well, that would be me haha!

Has the best taste in Music?

Hannah always has the best song for any moment we are in.

Spends the most shopping?

Hannah without a doubt. That girl can SHOP.

Works the hardest?

Natalia is the oldest sister, so she is always making sure we are taken care of. She stays busy all of the time!

What style of music do the three of you listen to and do you think those styles of music fit in to anything you perform?

We each listen to different styles of music. For me, being the drummer and the “crazy” middle child, listening/loving/living-by all forms of rock music is my given preference. I always make sure to bring out a rock vibe through my playing during our performances.

What has been the best day of your life so far, is there anything you regret and if you could only achieve one more thing in life what would it be and why?

The day my parents took me to a Bryan Adam’s concert (my favorite classic rock artist) in Vienna, VA in October of last year! Truly one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had! We were front row, and even locked eyes a couple of times! Haha!

You were officially named as EMM Artist of 2018.Can you tell me how you feel about that and what would you say as an acceptance speech ?

We’re so very thrilled and surprised to have been blessed with this award! It is a gratefulness that will never escape our hearts! Thank you to everyone who has ever supported us during our musical journey, we LOVE you!!

If you are cooking a meal for each of you what would be the ideal meal for each of you and why?

Man. If I’m cooking up something, it’s bound to be anything barbeque styled, served with a nice helping of baked beans! I’m obsessed with camping/outdoor-grilling type cuisines.

If you could change the music industry in anyway how would you do it?

I would most definitely take media and all advanced technology out of the equation. I wish for an equal playing field for all types of musicians, and for people to focus more on true musical talent rather than how many followers someone has, or how visually physically appealing someone is.

                    Which are you proud of:

One gig you performed in?

Rock The South in Cullman, Alabama

Your favourite line from one of your songs?

“there ain’t no stopping my girls and me” because it’s true lol

Your best fan experience?

Watching a child scream joyfully after opening some Southern Halo swag sent as a Christmas present!

What would you like to finish this year having achieved?

I personally would like to be able to play a full set using a Roland SPD sx!

              Natalia Morris

Do you think being sisters helps when thinking about longevity as a trio and what is it like working with your sisters and being with them most of the time?

Of course!! Growing and learning together every day enhances our love for music and for each other. As sisters, we’ve grown up learning that it’s us against the world, so coming together to collaborate on decisions and play music naturally is easy (AND FUN) for us!

What did you guys get up to at Christmas and you tell me a story from the holiday season from any year since you were born?

We had the most amazing, relaxing Christmas ever! Since we did a lot of radio touring and performing in 2018, we decided to spend the holidays with our family at our home in Mississippi. We cooked in our pjs, watched Christmas movies and played games with each other all day!

Our favorite Christmas so far was when we went to New Orleans in 2017. We’ve grown up going to New Orleans all of the time, so we have a lot of friends who work at the restaurants and stores in the area. One year for Christmas, New Orleans was nearly as empty as a ghost town, but all of the restaurants and stores were still open. It felt like we had the entire city to ourselves! We popped in to all of the restaurants and stores saying ‘hello’ to all of our friends and had the most magical Christmas ever.

Who out of the three of you:

Eats the most food?

Christina is the drummer, so naturally she eats a little more to have enugh energy to play!

Argues the most?

Christina. What can I say? She’s the middle child, haha!

Has the best taste in Music?

Hannah has the coolest playlists of any kind of music you wanna hear. She’s great at finding good music!

Spends the most shopping?

Hannah. That girl could shop all day if you gave her a credit card!

Works the hardest?

Being the oldest sister, I naturally work a little more. ☺

What style of music do the three of you listen to and do you think those styles of music fit in to anything you perform?

I love listening to a lot of different genres of music! Depending on my mood/what time of the day it is, I listen to country, classic rock, jazz, classical piano, and alternative!

What has been the best day of your life so far, is there anything you regret and if you could only achieve one more thing in life what would it be and why?

Man, that is so hard to choose! Honestly the girls and I have been so fortunate to go on plenty of fun adventures. I personally feel like even though we have all done things that we wished we hadn’t back then, we still don’t have any regrets because all of our actions have led us to where we are today.

You were officially named as EMM Artist of 2018.Can you tell me how you feel about that and what would you say as an acceptance speech?

Thank you so much EMM staff and all of the readers who have voted for us! We couldn’t do it without you!!!

If you are cooking a meal for each of you what would be the ideal meal for each of you and why?

Considering that we always eat out on the road, if we are cooking for each other at the house, it would be for a special occasion! I would like to cook steaks with sweet potatoes and buttermilk biscuits!

If you could change the music industry in                     anyway how would you do it?

I wouldn’t change a thing! We love this industry a lot. That’s why we chose to be in it, haha! ;)

                   Which are you proud of:

One gig you performed in?

Opening up for Dionne Warwick at a David Guest Memorial concert in London, England!

Your favourite line from one of your songs?

“First night alone on an empty floor makes me realize I’m not little anymore. I’m just a small-town girl moving to the city, where these dreams of mine can become a reality. I guess you’ll never know until you try, but it’s just so hard for me to say goodbye.”

Your best fan experience?

We did a fun performance in South Bend, IN for B100’s 24th Birthday Party and had the coolest fan experience! We had a line of fans from the stage farther than we could see and we hung out meeting people for hours—it was AWESOME! Lots of people had been fans since the first album, and others became instant fans after seeing our show. We totally were not expecting that. Everyone was so nice and we can’t thank country radio enough for introducing us to them!

What have you got planned for 2019?

Any up-coming gigs, releases and anything you can tell us.

So many fun new tours and performances! We have CMA Fest, a big show in Canada this summer, releasing new singles, writing more songs, and filming more videos!

What would you like to finish this year having achieved?

I personally would like to have enhanced my performance and musical skills, released new fun music, collaborated with new artists, written a lot of fun new songs, grown Southern Halo’s fan base, and have a Christmas EP! There is always room for improvement and making new friends, so the girls and I are very excited to see what 2019 has in store for us!
