EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

How did you get into music and who were your musical inspirations?

I started writing songs when i was in the 4th grade. My father is a saxophone player, my grandad was a drummer. My father plays still in baltimore. I was always exposed to the music on the radio and albums they listened to.  There were a lot of soft rock 70s acts. Like Blood Sweat and Tears, which is weird now as I became their lead singer in 2012.

I had an impulse to write songs. I didn't see dad play around the clubs  but it gave me  encouragement to be musical and to enjoy it. Got musical instruction in high school. I didn't like school ,the neighbourhood it was dangerous . It was a Fame high school based on movie. I did classical music,  I got into the voice department and learnt classical. I got into a band escaping school so I could escape school through my music. I Escaped rigidity by starting a band outside of school. We played Ozzy Osbourne, Rat, Bon Jovi and songs of the mid 80s. I Discovered Stevie Wonder and The Beatles and that expanded my musical output. They were more technically gifted and their song writing was advanced. I did jazz voice at new york uni was into Bennie Goodman, Judie Garland, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet. I then learned the structure of their songs and wrote songs like that. Grew from basic Motley Crue music to the more Stevie Wonder cool bluesy songs and jazz songs in college.

How did you get the gig singing the Pokemon Theme ?

Advertising agencies hire music houses and there is a whole process to get from the start to actually getting a job . When I did the pokemon theme music it I knew I wanted to hit it out of the park lego world .I knew there could be success . At the end of the lego advert I did it doesnt say who's on the track but it was doing its job I knew there could be success with major brands. I knew my legacy would expand if I worked as hard on everything as I could?

Tell me 3 things about you that people might not already know?

1 I have been to twelve schools in twelve years of compulsory education. All those schools I was challenged by the system and that diminished my mind. They all had different styles i learned dangers of this system and all my education I ended up learning was in my efforts outside of the system.

2 I do quite a bit of session work and they are anonymous. So from 1995 to 2005 I used to do five sessions a weeks. Lots of vocal appearances in products, tv shows, moviesand all of them with  no credits. Like I was the voice in the Subway commercial ‘Subway Eat Fresh’ . I did a Gatorade commercial. Other things I did was ‘ Junior Star Search in 1986. I was in the acting division and I came in second. It was hosted by Ed McMahon and it was a kids talent show that pre dated American Idol.It was a  popular TV Talent Competition show.

3 I have journaled over 1000 pages of free streaming ideas, Emotions, Poetry, Lyrics and thoughts. Id say 4 to 5 thousand free writings over the years that are a very very effective tool of getting to know myself and express myself and organise my thoughts and get better fulfillness on life . Ive got stacks of 20 books. I come up with  lyrics, poetry, emotional purges so I can be connected to myself more .

What things make you happy and what things annoy you?

Mountains and water in its natural state. It makes me happy. Either fresh mountain spring  or natural hot spring. It connects me to the wonders of the earth and water that I am made of is connected to the water on Earth. I was recently in mexico with mountains jutting out of water with arches, incredible natural life makes me happy.

Mistakes humans have been making regarding the destruction of the planet. Chemicals that are harmful and my tshirt has harmful dyes and synthetic fibres that block my energy. 2 billion microplastic particles in my coffee when you heat it. Programmes put forth by governments make me unhappy. Water Treatment fluoridation various pharmaceuticals and the effect on public health .My answers are Opposite sides of the spectrum .

What is the craziest thing you have been give or craziest thing you have received from a fan?

I had a fan who described an accident they were involved in. They were in a coma and in hospital they were exposed to the Pokemon theme and it broke them out of the coma . Fans that have had physical and mental changes they have overcome with the theme played . Its been played at Weddings, friend’s funerals, births. These are the greatest human events and it’s a  powerful medium. When the original recording is played you get that nostalgic feeling and it is  important for healing. 10s of thousands of comments who posted the song and comments have  quite a few stories in them you will see stories on my youtube also.

What are your favourite song , video game and TV theme of all time?

Song Id say the Speedracer theme recently listened to it again . When I recorded the theme for Pokemon and they recorded it it looked like an early version of Speedracer. If you mean actual songs really I like a song called I Thought About You. The basic imagery went on a train thought about you. (quote more things) the way he projects the lyrics. It puts you on the train, makes you feel love and leaving the one you love. Great song the writing craft . I try to emulate it with my  own song writing? Sea battle for Television  which is the early 80s. One of my favourite games. Air battle game.  When you used to fall out of the sky that was my fave.

Have you ever had a negative thought towards the pokemon theme over the last 30 years?

No its the opposite. I continue to see how the lyrics are connected to what I believe about life and empowering and friendships and creativity . The only negative is the song is  so rocking and it need so much energy ,the same energy I  put into it back in the day. They want appearances to happen at beginning of the day and its rock and roll the theme so you would normally sing it later. If im doing an appearance I normally have to be up about 7 to warm up and get ready at 11. Its a beast.Just precautionary of course to make sure I have to do it to get the precision I did 30 years ago?

What are your messages you would say to your fans?

Be the very best like no one ever you be the best you you are like no one every was.Catch all the greatness in your friendships. Train you and those around you to do the same travel across the lands and earth far and wide. Teach those around you and learn from them. The ultimate power is inside you, have the power that is inside, as the song says. You have unlimited power to be the highest person you can be .

What are your plan for the rest of 2025?

Absolutely Loads  i would like to achieve more publicly than I have anonymously. I will be performing at many events which the details will be at the end of this interview. I will be performing the song and my own song ‘Love is a Frequency which is about the Pokemon theme song .
