Interview

When did you decide that a career in music was for you?

-I’ve grew up around music being playing constantly in and around the house . Different influences from my mam and dad . Mam being more 70s 80s disco / ABBA etc . Dad’s music was more U2 / Travis / Tracy Chapman / David Grey / Mike And The Mechanics etc …

-I’ve always done plays growing up (Oliver twist etc)

-I joined a pop group called “ 2-2-Many “ when I was around 10/11 year old , doing gigs around the uk and things mainly escalated from then and I haven’t looked back since ! I’m now 32 and it’s my full time job / career making a living from music and something I absolutely love !

Who are your musical inspirations and why?

-Ed Sheeran ! I’m a huge fan ! I have his albums tattooed on my arm . Ive been to see him play live around 10 times now . I’ve watched and listened to Ed for around 12 / 13 years before he became the massive star he is today ! Just the way he left home at a young age and MADE it happen . His music . His songwriting is out of this world and hes an all round great guy . My one dream is to meet and work with Ed at some point down the line !

Can you tell me 3 things about yourself that people might not already know?

1- I used to fight competitively (boxing ) I had 32 fights and won 27 in my time ! First stepped foot in a boxing gym at 7 years old and had my last fight 7 years ago ! Boxed for the Tyne tees and wear / England select . Won titles / championships . Retired and chose to do music .

2- I appeared on you’ve been framed when I was little singing a backstreet boys song . Getting the words wrong and me kicking off and storming out the room

3- I appeared on the ITV entertainment show THE XFACTOR back in 2014 . Made it right up to the 6 chair challenge at bootcamp . Sang “a thousand years” Christina Perri for a chair and claiming one ( the 4th chair) ! One guy in the category (boys) was left to sing and unfortunately took my chair and just missed out on judges houses. It was a great experience and I met some amazing people who I still keep in touch with now ! Used the platform / opportunity well and continued to work my backside off since !

What song of yours best describes you and why?

-Going back to my first album I wrote a song called “make It” in 20-30 minutes ! I’d say this best describes me as a person as an artist . The positive person I am ! The lyrics state that I’m gonna keep pushing . Nothing will stop me . The ups and downs . Smiles and frowns ! It’s a great song influenced form the upbeat positive 90s RnB .

What has been the best gig you have done to date and why?

-I’ve played some amazing gigs / shows over the years . Some venues including the sage , o2 academys / city hall / Sunderland air show , the sands centre etc . As an original artist  and doing my own shows , I would have to say THE FED , Gateshead back in August 2021 . Sold around 400 tickets / big venue / the staging / the set up / the lighting the sound was amazing ! The whole night just felt great and it was all of my fans and followers (some who had travelled from Bristol , St Helens , Derby , Carlisle , Teeside , Scotland etc)

If you could perform a gig at any venue where would it be and why?

-If it was a “venue” it’s a toss up between the newcastle arena or St James Park ! Being a lad from newcastle that’s always the dream from being young growing up as a singer songwriter .

-If it was a festival , It has to be Glastonbury . THE biggest music festival ! Headlining the pyramid stage . Every singer / bands dream !

What has been your best achievement to date and what would you like to achieve in the future?

-The best achievement isn’t music related but for me as a man / as a human being , it has to be my little lad being born back in October 2017 . Taylor James ( TJ ) ! It wasn’t planned and very unexpected BUT he’s been the best thing to ever happen to me . I want to be the best dad I can be and give him the best possible life I can !

-What I want to achieve In the future is to go on a small uk tour with my band singing MY songs ! I’d love to play Glasgow Edinburgh Newcastle Leeds Liverpool Manchester Cardiff London Belfast Dublin etc . . .

Tell me a story from backstage or after a gig?

-There’s nothing really ROCK AND ROLL about it all tbh … The most exciting thing that goes down is a pot noodle and a cup of coffee back at our hotels / accommodations and go to bed . I’m not a one for partying or going out .

-I once came off stage to a message on Instagram . It was THEEEE Holly Johnson from Frankie Goes To Hollywood . He messaged me saying he had just seen a me singing and that I had a great voice . Said to never smoke and go out partying drinking alcohol after shows to LOOK AFTER MY VOICE !

What do you like best about being a musician and why?

-A mix between the creative process writing and releasing songs and performing live !

-With me being a very positive / creative person it really fits me well . I love writing songs and seeing them come to life to the point of them being released and allowing the world to listen to them !

-Performing live is great ! Solo or band shows . The buzz / the feeling / the slight butterflies seconds before walking out onto that stage . Keeps me ALIVE and reminds me that i absolutely LOVE what i do and care !

If you were not in the job you are now what would you be doing?

-Again going back to the boxing career , I would have probably turned professional at around 25 years old and seen where that led to .

What has been the best gig you have been too as a fan and can you tell us about it?

-I travelled to Wembley Stadium on my own back in June 2022 to see Ed Sheeran . One of the best gigs / experiences I’ve had . It had sold out and a standing ticket had came available and I jumped to buy the ticket !

-Train journey was great . Wrote some lyrics on the way and just took it all in . The stadium was breathtakingly HUGE ! Maisie Peters was his support and she was great ! He brought Anne Marie out on stage during his set and the stadium went wild ! Ended the night with a pizza and Uber back to catch my mega night bus back home during the night . Overall an amazing experience .

What would your ideal festival line up be and why?

-My favourite artists start to finish ! Past and present who I’ve grew up listening to ! >>>

-Luther Vandross . Prince . MJ . Whitney Houston . George Michael . Queen . Amy Winehouse . Bob Marley . Celine Dion . Tracy Chapman . James Blunt . James Morrison . One Republic . Justin Timberlake . Jessie J . 1975 . There’s too many to call tbh .

-Headline would have to be Ed Sheeran and for me to get up and do a few songs with him !

What a dream that would be , and I’d hate to see the price of the ticket for that festival

What would you say is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

-Be yourself !

-Believe in yourself !

-IT IS WHAT IT IS !

-Recharge and rest when you can !

-We are only human and not invincible !

What things make you happy and what things annoy you?

-Positive people with a good drive make me really happy and motivated .

-Negativity and people with no drive / no get up and go , really annoy me !

What things do you like to do when you are away from music?

Spending time with my little lad . Getting in the gym as much as I can to keep fit physically and mentally . Playing 5 a side football with the lads every week for a good run around and catch up with mates .

Do you think social media and the internet are a good thing in the music industry?

-If it is used correctly and capitalised yes ! We’ve seen some of the biggest artist became famous from YouTube / TikTok etc .

-On the other hand , there’s just some awful horrible people in this world who are out to just bring people down .

-The amount of fake profiles and trolling is also disgusting ! People should not be allowed to open an account / fake account without official id proof .

How important do you think your look and image is when it comes to being in the music industry?

-To me , it’s KEY ! It is very important . I’m in the gym 3-4 times a week and play football to keep fit and look / feel good ! Having a good style ! A solid strong edgy look is my vibe . It’s what a go for .

Can you tell us about any tattoos you have and the significance of them to you?

-Every one of my tattoos have a meaning ! Literally every single one , and I have quite a few

If you run the country for a day what would you change about it and why?

What would your ideal day consist of?

-Morning - A GOOD GYM SESSION FOLLOWED BY A SAUNA SWIM SHOWER !

-Afternoon - a few hours with my little boy . Park . Skate park , food , chill .

-Evening - a sold out show to my fans and followers singing along to all of my original music

If you could say one thing to your fans what would it be and why?

-I love , respect and appreciate them all so much and they all know that ! From all corners of the world . I’m lucky to have followers from all different countries and of all different ages !

How would you answer the question Who is Geoff Mull and what are the differences between you as a music artist and you away from music ?

-Geoff Mull is a real / normal / down to earth guy who was born and raised in a council estate in Gateshead / Newcastle . Wasn’t lucky to be born into money and a wealthy family so we had our struggles and obstacles growing up but my parents done their very best for me and my siblings ! Geoff Mull absolutely lives sleeps and breaths music so it’s hard to separate the 2 . In and out of music I’d like to think I’m the same down to earth guy !

What was the first record or song you purchased and why?

-Backstreet Boys Album  was the first actual cd I got my hands on . They’re one big reason why I do music today to be honest. . .

What would you say to someone thinking about becoming a musician and getting into the music industry?

-Never EXPECT anything . Be prepared for set backs and NO’s ! Work hard . Be real . Be nice . Be respectful and it can land you very far !

If you could collaborate with any other band/singer or musician who would you choose and why?

-Again in a massive fan of Ed Sheeran so he’s top of my list . I really think we would work well together and get on really well as people too !

-If I had an option to work / sing with multiple I’d have to say … Justin Timberlake / Ryan Tedder of One Republic / Jessie J !

If you could have written one song from history which would it have been and why?

-Almost impossible to say tbh ! It would have to be an ANTHEM such as Simply The Best . We now perform it when we do cover gigs / weddings etc and it goes down an absolute BELTER !

What things make you uncomfortable?

-Not many things tbh ! I’m a very upfront confident laid back guy !

If you wrote a book about yourself what would it have in it?

-“A Book About Me” GEOFF MULL !

-My life growing up as a kid / school / sports / music / having my son etc .

-Building up and working towards what I do now within my career .

-I think I’d really surprise myself with how much I’ve done in my life since being born ! Crazy to think really !

What has the rest of the year got in store for you?

-The main thing is to keep pushing and working as hard as I can . Attending as many networking events within the music industry as I can . To build relationships and contacts within the music industry !

-I’ve been unsigned and a totally independent artist for 10 years of releasing music and having a career ! No management ! No labels ! No record deals ! No publishing deals . No promotional deals . Im looking for that step up now so maybe it’s time to look for a manager who wants to take me on , believe in me and really push me further . Who knows.

-The main thing is I have so many songs written and ready to release this year but I’m being patient and not rushing my releases anymore ! They’ll drop when their drop so keep a look out on all my social media platforms for updates and announcements !

-I’ve been booked for quite a few great gigs this year ! Festivals and headline shows .

•A headline show in April TBA

•8th June - The Strangest Party Festival in North Shields .

•22nd June - Coast Fest 2024

•A bigggg festival in July TBA

•Another big gig to announce for August !

I’m really excited for everyone to hear my new music and see what I have coming up in 2024 onwards !
